Pledge Retreat
Bonfires and S’mores and Pinatas, Oh My!
Spring Retreat 2013

I was not able to attend pledge retreat but my lovely sister Amy was able to provide me with her experiences during spring retreat. Enjoy!

Last weekend, we had an amazing time at Pledge Retreat, planned by the amazing Rebecca Oakes and Gabby Washington! We met up at Chapel Circle and our two pledges Kate Rollins and Austin Robinson were blindfolded (willingly!) and we took a group picture.

The fun began at Rebecca’s house where we did a scavenger hunt and played Apples to Apples, during which Nic Cage was mentioned more than is probably socially acceptable. After that was dinner, cooked by Megan Jordan’s amazing parents, and it was extremely delicious.
After dinner it was out to bonfire to enjoy each others company and enjoy the fire. CJ Blanton, the Chaplain, surprised everyone (in a good way!) by arranging for a pastor to come and speak and oversee communion. This was an excellent addition to Pledge Retreat and a great idea. We even found out that the pastor, Pat, was a sister of Alpha Delta Theta when she was at High Point College. Sometimes it’s amazing what a small world it can be! I love meeting former sisters who can share their fond members of ADT. She was happy to know we were still around!

After communion, we enjoyed the warmth of the fire, marveled at all of the stars we could see in the sky and made s’mores which was a huge plus for someone with a major sweet tooth, like me!

After s’mores set-up committee went over to the place where we would be spending the nice to set-up and once they were done we all headed over. It was an awesome building used to hold bluegrass gospel jam sessions and perfect for out groups. We started to watch a movie but were all so tired that we crashed before it was over.

The next morning we had a devotion by CJ where we created Wordless Bible Bracelets. Each sister got one color beads/a string and had to distribute the proper pieces to each sister. Each bracelet has five beads and we all had to work together to make it complete. It was a great devotion about our relationship with God and our relationship with each other through Christ.

The next morning, Gabby and Rebecca fulfilled another childhood love of mine: piñatas! We were all blindfolded working together managed to bust that piñata open.  Some were better than others but I don’t think anyone missed, so it worked out pretty well!

After the piñata, we ate lunch, including a delicious custom ADT cake we did what all girls do a lot of: took some pictures (including this one of some sisters sporting our brand new team shirts).
We made the executive decision to bring the hand sign back (I tried next year but maybe I’ll actually succeed this year!) as you can see in this picture

All in all it was an awesome weekend and I’m pretty sure everyone agrees that Gabby and Rebecca did an amazing job planning what was one of the best, if that the best retreat I’ve been to! Thank you to Gabby and Rebecca for all of their hard work

With Love,
